Geisha In Gold combines my fascination of Japanese wood block prints of geisha and my love of the jewel toned paintings by Gustav Klimt especially Klimt's Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer, (referred to as Woman In Gold).

I created Geisha In Gold using a fabric collage/art quilt technique. Her kimono is covered in tiny pieces of jewel toned fabrics reminiscent of Klimt's painting. I hand stitched the kimono to accentuate the voluminous layers. The finished art quilt is mounted on canvas.

Klimt's Daydream In Indigo isinspired by the sensuality and decorative motifs of Gustav Klimt's paintings. I placed tiny pieces of jewel toned fabrics to cover her quilt revealing the shape of her body beneath. Details are hand and machine stitched using thread drawing techniques.
